There is no stronger epitome of retro glamour than the iconic red lips, blond hairdo and white dress of Marilyn Monroe, the star to which next week’s Retroback classic film festival is attributed. From 19 Feb. to 27 Feb., Granada will celebrate and honor some of the timeless classics of international 20th century film.

The screenings will be held at Teatro Isabel La Católica, Cinema 2000, Conde de Gabia Palace, the Andalucía Film Archives and, for the feature play, Marilyn is Not Monroe, the CajaGranada Cultural Center.

The cultural center will also host an exhibition featuring various items about Monroe, including personal items, outfits, photographs and magazine covers. Fundación Caja Rural will host an exhibition chronicling Monroe’s transformation from Norma Jeane Mortensen to the glamourous star of Hollywood.

The one exhibition not to miss is the “Constellation Marilyn” street exhibition on La Carrera del Genil (behind el Corte Ingles), which will be decked out in a red carpet for visitors to feel like stars. Guiding the way to the main venue at Isabel La Católica, visitors can witness a series of images of Monroe’s co-stars throughout her career. Make sure to bring a camera for some great red carpet photos!

Most of the screenings cost 3-4,50 €, and you can purchase tickets in the venue’s box office. For Cinema 2000 screenings, you can also go to www.entradas.com. The feature play tickets can be purchased at the CajaGranada’s box office for 7 €. Andalcía Film Archives screenings and all exhibitions are free of charge. An opening and closing gala will kick off and wrap up the week at Teatro Isabel La Católica and Manuel de Falla Auditorium for 10 €.
