Cultural Highlights for Summer 2011 in and around Granada.
Festivals
June 4 – 10 “Festival Cines del Sur” Granada. This annual cinema festival celebrates some of the best movies from developing countries including works from Africa, Asia and Latin America. There are Showings at the multi-screen cinemas around Granada as well as nightly open air screenings behind the cathedral. Go to www.cinesdelsur.com for full listings.
June 20th – 26th Corpus Christi Festival Granada. The biggest and best festival of the year to hit Granada. Corpus Christi is a traditional Andalucían fair and takes place at the Recinto Ferial Almanjayer. It is a carnival with fun-fair rides as well many casetas (tented bars) set up to entertain all ages. There is also bullfights each day at the Plaza de Toros. More details coming soon.

June 24th – July 12th The 60th Festival Internacional de Musica y Danza Granada. Probably the best recognized music and dance festival throughout Spain. The festival consists of some of the finest performers from all parts of Spain and the rest of the world, from the classic to the contemporary. June 24th Día de San Juan, Lanjaron. The town celebrates the festival for a long weekend with the climax being the massive waterfight (with all ages participating) from midnight till 1am as St. John’s day arrives.
July 15th -17th Festival EtnoSur, (Alcalá La Real) A very unique festival just 50km away from Granada. The festival takes place over the course of a weekend and attracts over 50,000 revellers from across Europe for a weekend of Music, Dance and Circus Acts as well of plenty of bars and great ethnic food. Various workshops and hand craft stalls are also set up for the weekend. For more details www.etnosur.com
July 18th – August 11th Los Veranos del Corral Flamenco Festival. Nightly Flamenco Performances (Monday – Thursdays) in the emblematic patio of the Corral Del Carbon. Open air Flamenco at its very best. Every year the festival attracts all of the top performers from the world of Flamenco. Tickets are €15 and can be bought in advance online at www.losveranosdelcorral.es or at the ticket office in the Corral de Carbón from July 4th.

MC Escher Exhibition: Infinite Universes. Escher is globally recognised for his Litographs and Xilographs. He is famous for his extraordinary manipulation of space, time and perspective. In essence he is the founding father of 3D drawings and optical illusions.
There are two separate exhibitions, firstly looking at his work from an artistic perspective at the Palacio Carlos v (the Alhambra) and from a more scientific viewpoint at Parque de las Ciencias. Free Entry to both everyday from 9:00 – 20:00
