Granada creates tourist police force to patrol the center and the Albaicín
Granada intends to take good care of its tourists. This week an 8-person police force has started patrolling the city center and the Albaicín, as well as other high-traffic tourist areas, in hopes of cutting down on petty theft. And they're not just any Andalusian police. They've been trained and tested in several languages, particularly English, to better assist tourists. Whether you're in need of emergency medical care, you're looking to report a lost belonging, or you're simply lost and need directions, this new type of police patrol is there for you. Additionally, the police van will serve as a moving police station and tourist information office all in one. Inside you'll find city maps and you'll also be able to fill out crime reports right there on the spot, avoiding the hassle of having to find the police station and then struggle with the language barrier.
The tourist police force will be on patrol both mornings and nights, and can be easily approached in English for whatever your needs might be. They are also instructed to have periodic meetings with the local businesses to stay informed of tourists' specific concerns.
No more worrying about not being able to communicate with the local police, Granada's new English-speaking police have got your back.
