Granada's metro to be finished within two years

  1. Project to be completed by the end of 2013

We might be all too familiar with the unused light rails that seem to have been sitting around untouched for some time now. However, come the new year the project is planned to be on its way again, and this time with an end in sight. With the backing of €130 million from the European Investment Bank the Junta de Andalucía now estimates that the project will be finished by the end of 2013. Construction had recently slowed down due to lack of funding. The metro will run from Albolote to Armilla, going underground when passing through Granada city. In total the 15-kilometre line will include 25 stops, about a 47 minute ride from one end stop to the other and is estimated to transport nearly 9 million passengers its first year operating.
