Oktoberfest Arrives in Granada
-
Looking for something new to do in Granada? This year, Granada will celebrate the famed German tradition Oktoberfest for the first time from May 12 to May 22 in the Plaza de Toros.
Oktoberfest originated in 12 October, 1810 with the grand wedding party of Prince Ludwig I of Bavaria with the Princess Teresa. Today, it is the most popular festival in Germany with food, beer, and 6 million participants. Oktoberfest will recreate the atmosphere of a Bavarian holiday with all types of beers (blond, red, black, alcohol-free and wheat, among others), traditional German cuisine (Frankfurt sausage), cheese, and desserts. Live music, performances, and drawings for a raffle to Munich for the most authentic Oktoberfest add to the excitement. The beer will start flowing everyday from 12:30 and won't stop until 2am.
Some themed dates to watch out for:
Day of the Master Brewer: 18 May
University Beer Day (Discounts for students!): 19 May
Latin Day, celebrated with Latin music: 20 May
Entrance is free. Beers can be purchased at around 7 euro for a large mug (1 litre) and 4 euro for one smaller (1/2 litre).
