PP wins elections

Right wing political party takes hold of majority seats in congress
The general elections in Spain (Nov. 20) yielded results greatly in favour of the centre-right political party, the PP. The party now has 186 representatives upped from 154 in the last congress, leaving the left wing PSOE with 110 seats (a loss of 40) and others such as the CiU and the IU-LV with 54 in total. PP leader Mariano Rajoy said that miracles have not been promised and will not happen. The party claims huge public cuts need to be made, some being in public health care and education systems. PSOE leader Alfredo Pérez Rubalcaba sees the biggest loss in congressional seats in the party's history.
The drastic changes come after great discontent with the PSOE's handling of Spain's economic crisis. Zapatero had called for these general elections to be held four months earlier than scheduled.
