All you need to know before planning your trip
Skiing in the Sierra Nevada
Southern Spain only brings to mind warm weather and beaches? Think again. The Sierra Nevada is one of Europe's most southerly mountain ranges. So why not head up to the slopes for a day of skiing? But don't leave your bathing suit behind. The resort is just 30km outside of Granada, and if you get an early start you can make it back in time for a few hours of sun on the Costa del Sól. The resort offers over 100 slopes for beginner to advanced skiers and is easy to reach by public transportation.
How to get there?
You can choose to go by car or by bus. By car take the A-395 highway and get off at Exit 31km.
The bus schedule from Granada's main bus station is as follows:
Granada-Sierra Nevada
Monday-Friday 8:00, 10:00, 17:00
Saturday/Sunday/Holidays 15:00
Sierra Nevada-Granada
Monday-Friday 9:00, 16:00, 18:30
Saturday/Sunday/Holidays 13:00
How much are the day passes and where do I get them?
Low Season Adult Pass (Dec. 3-23): €40/day
High Season Adult Pass (Dec. 24-Jan. 8, weekends and Easter week)
Visit <http://sierranevada.es/estacion/forfaits/recarga-de-dias.aspx> for more information on multiple-day passes.
Where do I rent ski equipment?
Skis, boots and snowboards can be rented at the ski resort itself. A basic set of skis, poles and boots run for €23/day (€3 more for a helmet). Snowboards €25/day.
Equipment can also be rented in the center of Granada, which is generally cheaper.
There you have it! You're ready to start planning your ski trip. And keep in mind, if you're looking to spend a few days skiing, maybe you'll want to try a country house or 'casa rural' outside the city.
